TV3 reported that Hanmer Springs had the high of 22deg yesterday, wonder if that just the water temperature of one of the pools maybe.

You’re in with a chance of some good rain and a rumble tonight into tomorrow Richard. Some coolish uppers during that time and good orographic forcing.

The falls hanging around the coastline from kaikoura northwards seem to be quite abrupt and heavy, I can't say I can recall thunder too many times from the SE.
But the wind has been switching back and fourth between NE and southerly the last 30 hours, what we don't have is the heating although ocean temperature may give some lift.
Temperature warms from tomorrow for the east coast around 17 to 18C.
I can see those inland storms tomorrow though.
Reporting from Kaiapoi in lock down with family.

Wellington had a final deluge of rain at 1pm with strong southerlies and the winds died down and changed to the west as the low center came over.

Drizzly showers have turned a little heavier this afternoon, got the washing in just in time before the first of those. Interspersed with brief semi-sunny interludes.

I see Wellington Airport reported gale force southerlies gusting 47 knots this morning but wind dropped off to just 4 knots at 3pm!

No wind at all in Auckland today as we are very sheltered from south with 21C.

Another rather cloudy and overcast day with not much wind, although it did look clear to the south this afternoon.
Days like this plus the oncoming winter doesn't look to good for the oncoming winter as we need more sunshine to try to help curb this Coro-19 virus threat, especially when the surface barometer is around the 1030hPa mark, and we get this 'anticyclonic gloom' >_<
Today's maximum was 16.1, when the sun did pop out for a brief minute round 1pm!

Had an intense shower come through sometime in the night, enough to wake me up. Looking at on and off showers today I suppose.

13mm here from the event so far, taking the YTD over 40mm now. Be good if we can squeeze another 10mm out from occasional rain today. BP getting a good soaking this morning.

Great storm just north of Tauranga last night . All flashes CGs least 12 shook the house less than 1 k away.Any heavy rain was very isolated . 5 mm here. 1015 pm to 11 pm then stopped abruptly. Some orographic lifting near the Kaimais and a warm moist air flow replacing the cooler evening air.The sea temps still warm here at the moment which is helping.

Heavy persistent rain again in Rangiora, just gone over 70mm since yesterday afternoon.
Reports of way over 100mm in Greta valley and surrounding areas.
Flooding in my backyard I haven't seen for 6 months or so.

A grotty day, but much-needed rainfall so that's good. Might stick the waterproofs on and go for my lockdown exercise soon.
