Re: General April Weather
Seems it’s going offshore. More Southland/Otago going by MetService, but I did think there could be a low chance if it turns out more southerly than southwesterly. The air is cold enough aloft.

Front just crossed here with a 5 min shower but not enough to help the dry lawns/ gardens. The system Monday looks promising for rain.

Re: General April Weather
Yea but a week ago today’s system looked promising. Same problem as last year. Systems a week to 10 days out look ok but fizzle as we get closer to the event.spwill wrote:Front just crossed here with a 5 min shower but not enough to help the dry lawns/ gardens. Re: General April Weather
Good rain here now. Lucky, as looks like North of Ohinewhai/ maybe Te Kauwhata is getting nothing.

Re: General April Weather
A few skiffs of drizzle here this evening but not enough to register in the rain gauge. I even cleaned up the rain gauge up this morning in anticipation!
Seeing more and more of this sort of thing while walking the neighbourhood now - a sad sight:

Re: General April Weather
Bloody incredible rain. Sure wasn’t forecast. Looks like a low developed off the north taranaki raglan coast and this rain is on the SW side of the developing low.

Re: General April Weather
eastern Waikato sure will be pleased to get that rain. Yes you could see that spiral low rotation in the rain radar alright

Re: General April Weather
I think there was some lightning off the Otago peninsula this evening.
....plus some more this evening according to the Blitz, with some sferics on the AM band this evening.
More drizzle over night and remaining cloudy but weak fine spells developing this afternoon with hardly any wind.
Today's maximum was 16.2C.
Coming onto rain after 10pm.

Re: General April Weather
Around 30mm around here, very lucky as the soil was drying right out again.
WUG shows the totals in cm, which is confusing, but about 30mm all around.

Re: General April Weather
Just heard a distant and long rumble of thunder way out to the east. Blitz showing some strikes
A hazy sky here but you can see the CB form to the east of here in the moonlight.
Too, dark to photo.
However, just seen a couple of flashes of lightning in the CB cloud.
The cluster is moving away more so offshore.
We got a heavy shower from it here around 10:30pm.

Re: General April Weather
Woke to a heavy shower in the middle of the night, past radar shows a large storm out to sea that clipped the edge of Banks Peninsula.
GFS has a nationwide rainfall event this Sunday into Monday with a cold southerly on its tail, EC varies a little but as much as models as struggling they have been consistent for a couple of days in the overall picture of an upper low driving a significant surface low across us. GFS currently has a soaking for Chch, Bay of Plenty and some other areas.

Re: General April Weather
Starting to look like Auckland won't get much rain from the system early next week. Looks like a fast moving cold front crossing late Sunday or early Monday with solated severe wind gusts being the primary weather event with it.

Re: General April Weather
yes looks like a thunderless year this year. i have worries our drought may not end till next year. sad the models downgraded our rain. hopefully the models change again to us having some decent rain from the system.

Partly cloudy, sunshine at present, 9.3°C,
at 7:49am a Mag. 4.3 earthquake 10km southwest of Christchurch, felt here with a quick creak of the house and that unmistakeable nudge under the couch.

Re: General April Weather
Sorry, not meaning to be insensitive to those areas still desperate for rain. But funny as I accidentally created a very oversized wedge rain gauge last night by forgetting to bring the 120L recycling bin back in.

Re: General April Weather
GFS still showing 18mm for here which would be the best rain this year, still holding out hope.

Re: General April Weather
that wind next week looks nasty. could it be a repeat of April 2018? i hope theres gonna be some thunder activity with this low.
after this low passes models are showing a big blocking high.
getting a decent squally shower now. winds picking up.
