Re: General April Weather
Got to 17.1 by 9:20am with crystal clear skies and no wind. Some cloud must have kept the ground warm overnight then cleared just on dawn.

Re: General April Weather
Wandered up to the summit road late morning, sat with the NW in my face for ages just watching the city and the clouds - the lower level cumulus waves and also some standing waves in the high level cloud as well.
Still warm and NW, but looks like the SW change is due soon.

The southerly has come through Geraldine with some interesting clouds and a few spits of rain.

Re: General April Weather
Had a long rumble of thunder to the north of here at 4.49pm.
Just one, so far.
Another much more further away to the NE about 5.30pm. Nothing on the Blitz, so must of been in the cloud.

Re: General April Weather
It was an interesting day here weatherwize , with a rather NW sky early this morning, thickening to a layer that brought overthrow rain to the north of here but nothing here apart from a few spits. Mild with it being 13C around 8am, then with the high cloud layer moving off to the NE, it became quite warm in the sun with it getting up to 20.2C. Light winds from the SE.
From mid afternoon cloud again thickening to the west and lower cloud forming as another cooler southerly event went through which delivered a few random rumbles of thunder possibly from some lightning within the cloud, mainly to the north of Geraldine. A few spits of rain here but there was more of a substantial shower, here this evening. The southerly did freshen for a while around 5pm, but basically there wasn't much wind of any note.

Looks like we shall finish April here in our hood somewhere close to slightly above average mean temp, and with 7.1mm of rain for the month.

Re: General April Weather
A cold sytem crossing NZ next week. The flow looks a bit too southwest/southerly with the coldest upper air for good thunder chances here but it is a bit early to be looking at thunder chances.
Looks like fosts mid next week for those parts of NZ that get frost this time of year.

Re: General April Weather
Chilly night tonight under the incoming ridge, wouldn't bet against a frost the other side of the hills.
GFS is trending less cold for the surface low next week, and indicates a more positive SAM after that as are the BOM.

Re: General April Weather
Not much westerly in the next six weeks, plenty of High/Low/High/Low scenarios.

Re: General April Weather
Last week of May looks to have the potential for a significant South Island snow event and generally very cold air over the country. (reference to levels deliberately left out).
