General June Weather
Looks like a wet start to the month in the north, then a potential cold snap in the south during the first weekend of the month.
Hopefully overall a more active month than May...

Re: General June Weather
The polar jet is warping significantly at the moment, with the energy that was going west-east to the south of us - and keeping the cold air at bay - now breaking up and potentially taking more of a track towards us for a time. This seems to be due to some early distortions in the stratospheric polar vortex from a few weeks ago west of us now taking effect in the troposphere. GFS today looks to throw up an Omega block over southeast Australia which could mean further cold blows mid-month.

Re: General June Weather
Sun coming out from clouds and ducking back in again here at present, 9.0°C.
I observe some high clouds in the west/northwest whose appearance makes me think there may be some wintry weather on its way sometime soon...

Another blue-dome day here today, 3rd in a row, forgotten what clouds look like? although you could see some high cloud way to the N/NE, today.

Pretty solid day’s worth of drizzle there. Looking like something more substantial inland on Thursday.

Re: General June Weather
Quite an energetic shortwave moving through the upper North Island late afternoon/early evening tomorrow. While instability looks marginal, strong forcing/strong shear should favour some lightning. 500mb temperature will be about -18C and surface dp maybe 15C.
12Z EU total rainfall for later tomorrow for Auckland region.

GFS today is pushing that Tasman low/southerly combination for Thursday a little further north, one to keep an eye on.

Re: General June Weather
Looks a good set up for a tornado in Taranaki tomorrow. Thunderstorms there as well, also Waitomo. Models vary on the progression of cold upper air further north tomorrow.
