Re: General June Weather
risk for a isolated thunderstorm for auckland tonight and possibly tommorow as a low comes over the north island. no thunder heard today. but some helpful heavy falls.

Re: General June Weather
I see a cold upper trough arriving midday Saturday down here, chance brief heavy showers/ hail Canterbury. Brief and short trough then clearing and cold at night.

Re: General June Weather
Yeah, Mikey. Getting bored with all these bloody anticyclones moving across but now it is June, so any chances of inclement weather is most welcome but a lot of locals around here will not like a hailstorm like the one in November around Timaru.mikestormchaser wrote: ↑Thu 04/06/2020 19:03 I see a cold upper trough arriving midday Saturday down here, chance brief heavy showers/ hail Canterbury. I can remember a summery type of thunderstorm that moved over Christchurch in July in the 1980's or 1990's, I can't remember the date, will have to have a look through my diaries to find the actual date.I did have it on video somewhere which I recorded it from my roof on the house we had in Somerfield.

Re: General June Weather
Frosts coming for Auckland next week. I have to declare I don't like winter anticyclones. I will take the milder disturbed westerlies any day.

Re: General June Weather
Just 2mm here today after yesterday the Metservice promised persistent rain, possibly heavy. Ah well, maybe a few more mm overnight, but its really a fizzle here

Re: General June Weather
Yep definitely a fizzer so far, but as you say, a few more mm overnight. Maybe 10mm by morning as it seems to be setting in a bit with what can only be described as torrential drizzle.
Saturday afternoon looks chilly, snow flurries to 300m maybe. Then a week or 2 of frosts with a huge high moving in.

Re: General June Weather
I don't see it, doesn't look clear enough or air mass cold enough for frosts here?

Re: General June Weather
I was glancing the EU and saw the high pressure and 850mb temp around 1C. Hopefully there is onshore flow to keep the frost away.

Re: General June Weather
Overcast and cloudy day with southerly winds. Today's maximum was 9.6C.
Only 0.7mm fell today, despite the forecasts for some rain.

Yes, looks chilly. Snow flurries could eventuate in Invercargill but snow lying to about 300m. Snow level in Canterbury around 500m? Not a lot of snow though.snowchaser01 wrote: ↑Thu 04/06/2020 20:10 Saturday afternoon looks chilly, snow flurries to 300m maybe.

To me the snow level in Canterbury looks around 300m. I think Invercargill could see some icing sugar.NZstorm wrote: ↑Fri 05/06/2020 07:12Yes, looks chilly. Re: General June Weather
On todays potential thunder over the upper North Island, I reckon we need some daytime heating to energise the convection. The forecast high for Auckland is 17C, if we could get that, that would help.

Suddenly there are huge areas of high pressure in the models for next week that were not there yesterday.

Yeah agree 500m in Canterbury. A brief but chilly short wave coming through nothing to write home about. Cold at night though when it clears!NZstorm wrote: ↑Fri 05/06/2020 07:12Yes, looks chilly. Re: General June Weather
Some reasonable lightning off BOP coast last eve with Whakatane/Opotiki recieving some good downpours.Next 2 weeks look dry and sunny again for the north with lazy blocking highs. Hopefully the reservoirs have another 2 weeks storage now . Enjoy !!!

Re: General June Weather
if Auckland does not get above average winter and spring rain then its going to be facing big water restrictions this summer
