wind suddenly increased here ....48 knot gusts with a squally shower...its starting!
was one of the more dramatic sudden increases in wind I have seen...was like bang
58 knots at the signal station I see too
was a flash of lightning too
make that 53 knots (98kmh) here now ...whats tomorrow gonna bring!

It was a lovely mild sunny day but with high cloud at times and rain-band along the Alps with a north to NW blowing for much of the day.
Today's maximum was 18C.

Only received 35.6mm mtd, starting to look like that will be pretty much it for July.
No snow this winter either so far, got that feeling it going to be 5 winters in a row with out even slight skiff on the ground, for an area that always had snow every winter too.

the latest rain radar runs do hint at a low center developing
which will ramp up the SW wind as that passes to the south of Auckland

The first low level snow of the season for the south.

Not particularly windy here this morning but have a couple of gusty heavy showers come through. Auckland weather looks cool for the next 5 or 6 days.

Gusting around 50 km/h locally, which is fairly breezy for my location.

Surge of new polar air is now moving through Macquarie Island on it's way to Southland. Sea level snow mounting up in the last 30 minutes. The coldest of the polar showery air should arrive around Invercargill from 2am tomorrow morning.

Niwa quite strongly favoured average to below average rainfall for the Winter period over Northern NZ.
