Yesterday's cloud clearing away to become fine and sunny this morning but from noon, a southerly developed and stratus cloud eventually moved over.
Coming onto light rain here from 2pm but becoming scattered with some drizzly showers through this afternoon and through the evening.
Today's maximum was 14.1C. with 1.2mm of drizzly rain for today.

Nothing here in Chch. Reports of light showers elsewhere in Canterbury, but nothing on Metservice radar. (is it working?)

Were the clouds particularly low? The rain could be falling below the radar beam... I.e. from the Rakaia radar to Christchurch city the distance is 55 km which would mean any radar returns over Chch for example would be read at 700m ASL and above.

The cloud was the usual stratus that moved across from the south just after noon. There was drizzly showers here in Geraldine, but nowhere else.
Then we had some light showers in the evening which contributed to yesterday's total of 1.2mm in my rain-gauge.
Checking the Rakaia radar is was blank, or no precipitation recordings during the time that the drizzle fell.
Anyway, today, there was 0,2mm of drizzle overnight but it cleared up during the afternoon but there were a lot of watery looking Cu humulus forms around especially around the Mt. Peel area. Today's maximum was 11.3C.

Starting to get a bit concerned now moving forward with this real lack of rain so far this year. June and July saw some improvement in this, but still far below the average rainfall for the YTD and temperatures looking mild and dry for the time of year again from next week for the foreseeable future.

Driest Ive seen it here with 257mm this year so far, to have not had a major weather system at all this winter is worrisome going into spring.

High pressure has taken over the Antarctic continent this weekend. SAM (AAO) now around -3 with the polar jet starting to cut loose. Looks like a decent Rossby wave is lining up for the NZ region in a week or so.

Down to 4 or 5 C this morning, no frost.

Moisture/instability heading our way next week.

Mid month and sitting at 40mm MTD. August averages about 140mm in my records. Looking quite possible we will get a drier then usual August on top of the drier July. Really need that La Nina to plan out up here, another dry summer will be rather problematic

Looks like a big polar trough in the Tasman Sea later this week which means there will be a chance of squally thunder for Auckland. Hope it eventuates. Blue dome skies this weekend, the coldest morning of the year for Grey Lynn this morning.

Thats 40mm more than we've had this year... Just can't believe how bone dry the hills of Banks Peninsula are at present, compared to what they usually are in Augusts

Lighter frost down here this morning but freezing up again tonight.
Fine day with a maximum of 12.8C and a cool light NE wind.
Dry down here too but the place doesn't look all that dry on the surface mainly because of dewy or frosty nights?

Starting to get the sun returning to my part of the village, the grass growth might not be so prolific this spring if there's nothing to water it! Actually probably need to water the pot plants/lemons.

Auckland dam levels are at 61.40%, spells of rain / heavy showers over coming days.

Southern parts of Australia have a cold week ahead with a big Winter system there later in the week but the snow level not as low as a couple of weeks back.
