Re: General August Weather
A quick 5 mm downpour here before. There is plenty of mid level moisture in those cells off the west coast. They are slow movers, so it might get a bit wet overnight if they cross into Auckland.

Re: General August Weather
Interesting the way that the stratus cloud gradually sank and filled in this afternoon to become foggy and continuing this way into the evening.
Very moist conditions which contributed to 0.6mm, mostly in frizzly conditions this evening.
Today's maximum was 14.8C when it rather sunny later this morning.

Re: General August Weather
Heavy shower development over Northland and a storm east of Mangawhai Heads drifting south might be something to watch.

Re: General August Weather
Best thunder chances in Auckland today will be very late in the day when the colder upper air 500mb -23C arrives. Dp's 11C to 12C today so needs to be quite cold aloft.

Re: General August Weather
There was lots of lightning to the east out over the water in BOP. Could see it all in the cloud tops while I was getting the cows in at 5am.

Re: General August Weather
Looks like the ECM is forecasting the welcome return of >+10C 850hpa temps, albeit it at +192h so subject to change. Anyone aware of when we last experienced those kind of upper temps? (I must have missed it if it was during the recent mild spell)

Re: General August Weather

I am thinking though what might happen overnight is a gale NWer might develop here on the west coast...hummm
edit....the barometer is starting to drop faster now

8 mm of light steady rain with that rain band, all the intense convergence was out in the gulf. Further cells showing early development with the colder uppers 150 to 200 km NW and west of Auckland in the Tasman currently, moving SE.

Plenty of Cb/thunderstorm activity over the Tasman sea heading our way.
The low system gave a wintry weekend to SE Australia, snow for some inland hill towns west of Sydney. Further south 66cm for Perisher ski resort.
