The Kaitaia Airport dewpoint was 15C today which is certainly a tornadic number.
The PWS at Pukenui recorded a gust of 120km/h at 9.30am. Could have been associated with a tornado or a squall.

Were the clouds particularly low? The rain could be falling below the radar beam... I.e. from the Rakaia radar to Christchurch city the distance is 55 km which would mean any radar returns over Chch for example would be read at 700m ASL and above.
Interesting again . The low cloud and fog rolled in from the south from about 3pm today.
It came onto rain here around 5:45pm and it is still raining. I have 0.8mm in my rain gauge so far but nothing is showing up on the Rakaia radar except for a shower moving down from the NE around Ashburton.?

Plenty of lightning on the cell to my south. Wind has really ramped up further in the past 10 minutes.

That sure is a decent 10-min average Jamie's wind was getting up to - 60 km/h! Impressive for the inland Waikato.

Lovely day in ChCh. On my Port Hills run tonight I could see fog to the south, east and north but nothing over town. Banks Peninsula shelter effect.

re Hamilton wind, it must have been related to having those CB's pass to the south,..boosted the wind... i have not seen you get such a strong NWer like that Jamie...(espcially as further north is not as strong)

Nice day eventually, with some scattered high cloud and mild temperatures but from mid afternoon, fog or low cloud rolled in from the south and it came onto rain for a period this evening.
0.8mm for today with nothing showing on the radar.
Remaining rather overcast through the evening with calm conditions.
Today's maximum was 15.9C.

Looks like the next Tasman Sea front will cross Auckland later afternoon or early evening with thunder risk.
And then a possible warm front coming in from the north early Sunday.

Looking forward for some thunder this weekend. I see the media called the far north event a mini tornado . Doh

Something is wrong with the Canterbury radar, not showing any of the rain currently falling around Amberley

Agree. Enough to make puddles and get gutters flowing but the radar is blank.

Was just logging on to say the same thing. Rain started here in the last 10 mins and is not being picked up at all on the Radar. Meanwhile, there has been a weird circular patch to the northeast of Ashburton all day that has been rotating at times...something interfering around there. Hard to know how much rain is around but here is hoping to get 5-10mm somehow out of this as the last 30 days have delivered just 10mm here and we are still so far below average for the YTD.
