Very heavy downpour in Albany 5 minutes ago.
I doubt the accuracy of the rainradar sometimes.

Seemed they have fixed it as all the dots have re=appeared around the Ashburton/Rakaia area.
....and showers showing up down here.
Thought it may of cleared after it stopped raining overnight and this morning, but the clagg today returned this afternoon.

Radar didn't show this morning's rain in Lyttelton. Very useful for my new blueberry plants.

Good to see the Rakaia radar working again, properly.
Could be a thunderstorm chance for Canterbury on Friday?

The Tasman north west flow is bubbling away out there tonight off the NI. There will be some robust showers launching onto land during the night with the odd rumble.

Rain overnight and this morning but clearing away and come out mild despite the cloud cover.
Thought it may clear up but low stratus moving across this afternoon and persisting to evening.
Light South to SE winds this afternoon
Today's maximum was 16.6C with 8.3mm of rain falling for today.
Good to see the Rakaia radar operating correctly this evening.

edit: very heavy shower here now with hail
that now makes 17mm since midnight with the beefy showers
this does look like a clearing shower and a wind change

My totals have been fairly similar to yours this year as far as I can recall. 9mm from heavy showers early this morning, bringing us to 62mm over the last 7 days, and up to 102mm for the month now.

Still need another 35mm to reach August average, but not looking like we'll get that much in the next week based on current modelling.

We’re up to 238mm mtd and 698mm ytd. The Waitakere dams are now above 91% capacity but much more needed for the Hunua dams.

Most of it is, from here, inland, nothing much around Timaru or Ashburton.
Could be snowing up up in the high country with a good top up for the ski fields.

Interesting? There has been no wind here with this rain although Timaru has been windy.
Calm or light variable for most of the day. :-k
Rain clearing away from about 6pm-ish, now becoming fine and frosty.
Interesting to see what sort of frost for tomorrow?
