Unread post by talbotmj15 »

EC and GFS seem to agree to a low level snow event over the South Island tommorow. MS have a heavy Snow warning out now too.

Latest GFS run now has snow down to around 150-200m asl on the plains as well so clearly both models are picking up on something unusual with this front...

Looks like warm advection snow. A polar trough pulling moisture in from the North Tasman.

Heavy snow should help put out the fire near lake Pukaki.

Cold change has come roaring into my area, around Gore. Heavy rain, strong winds, some hail and a big temp drop.

Low snow in the hills around Middlemarch this morning according to my parents. Which is good because it's help controlling the fire there.

Not uncommon for spring. We can get snow falls right down to ground level until end of September. Remember that the spring equinox doesnt switch over until about the 25th September if im correct.

Can't believe I'm away when it is quite possibly snowing at home! Absolutely heaved it down with rain in Pakawau this morning, dry now but the occasional strong gust. Enjoy the snow guys 👍

Yes nothing to write home about. The models suggested snow to low levels. Perhaps not as low as ashburton but never the less. Just rain for rest of Canterbury, ashburton north. Bring on the big thunderstorms in Canterbury!
