What would it have recorded if it were at the height that most anemometer are at
There are hundreds and hundreds of trees down, the Medbury forest has been flattened, the local pig farm has lost heaps of huts
Yes, the speed measured at 2m needs to be scaled up to be representative of the usual 10m measuring height.

That level of damage would be more consistent with mean wind speeds of 90-100kmh and gusts at least 1.5x and probably (given its a norwester) more than that, 135-150kmh.

Sorry to read about the damage further north, Richard.
I could see dust flying back in the tops late this morning, haven't seen that for a long time.
Some rackety gusts at times here through the day but nothing too out of the ordinary.

Yes going by the amount of damage about it would have to have been 140+ gusts, and they were real mans gust too.

Thanks mate, I'm just so gutted to have lost much of my shelter trees, bloody Pinus Radiata wished I never planted it now, thinking I might drop what's left and start again but with a more stable slower growing tree.

All go around here today, they got that wrong, the fire was at Marble point and not Mouse.

We had some gale force gusts in the park yesterday around 1pm, the weather station recorded a gust at 87kmh.
A few calls for trees down on the RT, so on the chainsaw dealing with them and on electric fences.
