Which model or models does MetService use for their 3 day weather map chart?

A 2nd circulation has appeared right on schedule. The new low should now rapidly develop heading south east in the next few hours. Baro pressure around 982 hPa on land nearby in Southland and Stewart Island.

Macquarie Island now down to 0.2c and snowing at sea level. Around 2c colder at the surface than models projected at this stage. http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDT60801 ... 4998.shtml

So far not too much wind here, I think here we have avoided any damaging wind now that its going to turn more westerly

No real wind in Rangiora, we bit of spillover rain from time to time. MS seem to be spot on so far not to go overboard with warnings unlike the Facebook worriors.

Just a normal breezy day in Rakaia. A few spots of rain early hours. Blue skies.

Electric aeroplane event at Rangiora this morning was postponed due to the wind forecast, but maybe it would be ok to have it with the way the mornings going so far?

Re: Spring Weather Bomb - Gales and Snow - 26th - 29th September
The speed at which the surface clouds are moving is phenomenal. I’ve not seen clouds move this fast in NZ before. Only in USA I’ve seen this. The clouds are moving way faster than a helicopter flys by. And the clouds look lower to the ground than helicopters fly. Wind gusting to just over 50km here but man I wonder what it is at say 200m up.

2 runs of EC in a row now where it has 850’s of -7C as a minimum for Canterbury, clear divide between GFS and EC now, I have a feeling EC will end up being correct, 850’s of -9C for late September this far north is simply outlandish...

It's windy alright:

We all know certain seismographs are sensitive to the wind, can't say I've seen wind force it up in to the red limiting before.

Re: Spring Weather Bomb - Gales and Snow - 26th - 29th September
Strong blustery NNW at the moment after some earlier spill over rain, tomorrow may see one or two coastal fringe cold CBs up the coast to maybe Ashburton river mouth.
As its very strong Westerly influence but briefly SW also, strong upper jet might be enough to get some forcing going and decent sized hail.
But again very much a coastal fringe almost offshore scenario, id go low risk like MS have.
Still looks cold for Tuesday - 38c is still cold enough given 700mb is still - 20c and 850mb is - 8c.
So still running in snow to near sea level well a slight dusting for some areas, banks pennsinsula may get over 15cm above 300m.

Re: Spring Weather Bomb - Gales and Snow - 26th - 29th September
A blue dome day here with not much wind.
It was breezy around 8am this morning with some overthrow rain moving across, but then that all cleared away to the east.
it was more windier around 4pm, yesterday here.
