Over spilling cloud from the west starting to develop now and heading towards the east coast.
Expecting a change in the wind direction in the next hour or so. :-k

getting darker and colder as cloud closes in to west and south;
a few spots of rain on north- and west-facing windows.

Snow has settled just above the overbridge over SH1 on Saddle Hill in Mosgiel, which is about 120 - 130 m ASL. The snow has stopped here for now.

Been snowing non stop since around 9:30. We’ve had some heavier periods of snow but only a dusting on the ground at the moment. Barely a breath wind too which is strange

Both Christchurch and Ashburton running 4C colder then EC was forcasting for midday, either the change is coming through quicker then originally forecast or the airmass is colder then the models first thought...

Light snow down to 300m on hills here after a heavy shower went though. Clearing away to fine weather now.

Wouldn't rule it out altogether for tomorrow, MS low thunder risk covers the city.

Meanwhile, that red blob is incoming and the rain is getting heavier (again, Amberley). Edit, it's dissipating a bit, but the rain is still heavy.

1:45pm cleared and the sun is out here as well, go heating _b

522 line straddles high across the south tomorrow on the model, looking like the sea level event will continue. Unfortunately I don't think I'm gong to get any here because of the shadow. Wind needs to swing around to the SE. :rolleyes:

The breeding ground of streaking cold convective cumulus as the polar air is launched beyond the sea ice by the cyclonic gyre over the warmer Southern ocean.

Just had a quick snow shower pass through. It was the fluffy, swirly type. No sleet mixed in.

Some nice Cumulus heading for the Banks Peninsular looking out east of here.
Radar showing another band of precipitation near Timaru.
Winds picked up again here, lots of virga and darkness out over the west to the divide.

Looks from here like its all going out back of the Peninsula and not going to affect us. MS corroborates in their forecast update

Having said all that, its sunny with a brisk NE across town...

EDIT: 3:45pm strong SW change has arrived in the city accompanied by more sunshine and a distant line of CBs out beyond Banks Peninsula
