It snowed to the point of settling a bit on the ground at first in Cromwell, but the sun came out and melted the snow just before midday. There have been a one or two passing rain showers with a bit of hail mixed in with one of them in the pm interspersed with clear patches.

Interestingly the aforementioned strong SW in town has eased right back again. Wind has shifted significantly in direction several times today, a sign of the volatility further afield I'm sure

Can see the gust front from here

A weak gust front went through here around 4pm.
Black clouds behind it but no sferics, so a bit of a fizzer.

Yeah, bit of a gust front but fizzled out once it got inland.
Pity. It looked pretty impressive at one point. :?:

Some shots from down here.
The black stuff underneath moved out to sea with some lightning strikes way out to sea.

Very, very windy on the highway driving back to Chch just now, some serious gusts indicative of a strong southerly. Front looked really good, but yep out to sea. Just read 8C in town, sun is out but it's chilly.

According to the news tonight, there was a waterspout observed t'wixt the coast and Kapiti Island.

Moisture pluming in the mid levels around a short wave trough fanning from the centre of the low. Could be an active Southland radar early tomorrow morning and plenty of white on the ground.

Think they said the waterspout was between Titahi Bay (Porirua) and Mana Island. :-)

Snow showers getting more frequent and heavier in the past hour or so, a good covering on the ground now as well after all the earlier snow had melted.

All over bar the shouting as far as I'm concerned. Moved over too quickly for anything happening here.
Got the frost cloths out tonight and possibly tomorrow because of frosting.
Calm and clear at the moment.

Some beautiful clouds passing over the peninsula now, dimly illuminated by the moonlight. I don't mind not seeing much action overhead when you get the views we've been able to see the past few days. It's getting chilly though, tomorrow won't be that warm!
