General October Weather

I have wilting grass on the farm which I’ve never seen early October before and the water table is very very low. I also see I’m now more than 450mm behind average for the year. If October doesn’t get wet I’ll be 500+ behind at November.

I was out at family farm yesterday. It was striking how hard the ground felt under my feet. You could've driven a truck on without making a dent.

Already been raining here. And the front doesn't leave until tomorrow mid day so it's a slow mover. 3mm. So far

Local rainfall projection from 9 global models and the MetService local on the 12z run is averaging 31mm rainfall over the next 48 hours.

Interesting that todays front doesnt leave till tommorow afternoon. hope for at lest 20-30mm here. this is a very slow moving front. for once

It will dont worry. hopefully the front produces something rainwise overnight/tommorow morning. the front is slow and wont be gone till tommorow afternoon. so heaps of time for hope.

Plenty of mid level moisture now feeding in above the boundary of the stationary front in the Tasman on the water vapour image. This could get quite wet across the upper NI tomorrow morning. UK, French and South Korean models on the 00Z run are liking this increased mid level moisture with projections of 40 to 70mm as the front inches east.

A fine day initially but then it clouded from late morning throughout the afternoon with easterly winds.
About 17 spits of rain from a glaciated shower above around noon, but that was it.
Today's maximum was 19.3C before it clouded over.
Nice to meet up with Brian Hamilton/Awhituobs and his son today. Have a safe trip north.

Heavy shower development with the passage of the front over Auckland today. Areas that catch the convection get a decent soaking. The dewpoint is 15C this morning so moisture there.
