U.S ensemble continues to show a MJO pulse well beyond the ring of calmness towards the 2nd half of month as it heads into phase 6. A major weather pattern change towards the end of the month and November if this ensemble signal verifies. Canadian ensemble is similar.

A bit like that down here. Light Northerly to NW, then southerly then back to a breezy ENE for much of the day.
Clagg weather however eventuating from this :(

Clagg eventually become in control as easterlies become established this afternoon, with 8/8 low cloud cover becoming established.
Today's maximum was 16.3C, before the southerlies came through around 8am, then remaining about 13C for most of the day before cooling down this evening. Only a trace of rain for today with some drizzle this evening.

September and October record high temps are now held by 2020 for my station.

One thing I find very interesting is that my record max October temp is 22.9 yet November’s is over 28 or May even be over 30. That’s a big jump in temp and makes me wonder if under the right conditions late October, 22.9 could be smashed on any given year.

Looks like a convergence running down western Waikato in Thursday afternoon. Been a loooong time since we saw a convergence setup. Been even longer since we saw a decent one. Will this be a decent one?

We have had a sunny dry first week of October and not much wind.
Usual October pattern here is dominated by the Tasman sea highs which make northern NZ weather more stable and cool in October with cloudy or partly cloudy sw winds.

Yesterday's clagg cleared away to become nice and fine, sunny morning, with light winds.
From noon, some weak Cu to the west but nothing much to build upon prior to the arrival of the southerly.
The southerly went through just before 2pm with a drop in temperature and a gradual clouding up especially to the west.
From 4pm, more clouding from the south with a SE blowing which established a forming of lower cloud forming and moving in from offshore.
Coming onto rain from 6pm as the cloud became more extensive with the SE flow, with winds dying down and eventually dyding out this evening.
6.4mm of rain to 10pm.

Nice bit of rain last night to water the garden.. bit of a cooler day on the cards today.

I see next monday has a hint of a change coming through mid afternoon which might post a risk of storms
Haven't really had many hints for awhile.

It is Central Otago sometimes called Central by locals

Hopefully some much needed rain here Monday/early Tuesday, incoming moisture early next week.

Thanks Nev. Those Oct records are long standing in the context of current times. Things have not aligned for a hot day locally in Oct for a long time. The first warm day in a run was November 4th last year, IIRCC it would have broken Oct record if that setup had occurred 4 days eailier.

When they had the railway from Wingatui, just south of Dunedin to Cromwell , it was called the Central Otago Branch, according to various WWT I had in my railway days..
