Nice to see an unsettled week ahead. November into dec/ jan seems to be good months for storms for us. Re: General November Weather
EC next week is displaying that the Hadley cell has been shoved equatorward by the polar vortex. I don't think we'll see a La Nina influence for NZ in the 2nd half of November. Good news for those who like a parade of upper troughs, especially for the SI

Re: General November Weather
The new pattern favours dry stable weather ahead for northern NZ but we had plenty of rain earlier in the week.

Yes we did get plenty of thunderstorms and downpours. We will get rain again. Lovely day today despite the threat of another lockdown .

Re: General November Weather
While I got decent rain in the period last week I missed out compared to many. 53mm for the month when some had that in 2 hours. The rest of the month doesn’t look too promising so perhaps another month below average rainfall, then again it only needs to get to 67mm and I reach average for the month. November is my direst month typically.

Re: General November Weather
The models have been flip flopping abit for mid week, but there's still instability numbers there.
I like the abruptness line of the strong upper jet mixing with open ridging and coolish upper air, especially on the wind change.
Could offer some severity in any storms that get going, in the form of large hail and maybe some rotation.
There also looks to be an upper trough later on which may allow for coastal convergences.
Something to keep an eye on anyway.

Re: General November Weather
Another hot day here, touching 28C.
Temuka got up to 30C today, from some local weather sites, so that would of been the nation's top temperature ?

Re: General November Weather
I agree. Just a shower possible. I don't know why metservice has us under low risk. I don't think it even a risk. Anyway not complaining after the storms earlier this week

Re: General November Weather
There is an upper trough crossing the country tomorrow so that creates a low risk.

64mm at Ruakura and 88mm at Hamilton Aero so far this Nov.jamie wrote: ↑Sat 14/11/2020 08:43 While I got decent rain in the period last week I missed out compared to many. 53mm for the month when some had that in 2 hours. Ruakura 2020 ytd rainfall = 676mm - lowest annual record is 840mm set in 1932 (records from 1905).
Hamilton Aero 2020 ytd rainfall = 794mm - lowest annual record is 853mm set in 2019 (records from 1935).
And the Waikato's problem could also be Auckland's problem…

Re: General November Weather
Tracking similar to the airport here, 728mm year to date. My driest year in records beginning 2010 is 2015 with 1025mm, so this year is likely to be driest by a wide margin, barring some extreme rainfall in December...
