What is interesting is how all the showers around Canterbury are drifting in different directions. One heavy one south of Timaru
Dry all day in Christchurch. Back to that pattern already huh?

I see the nelson area has been getting some significant thunderstorms today

Nothing much happening down here, sadly. just overcast skies and the easterly sending in low cloud. A bit of rain here this afternoon but nothing as what was on the Rakaia radar this afternoon. :(

6.9mm all up for today from today's rainfall movement over South Canterbury for today.
The wind from the NE was quite persistent but eased away this evening.
Today's maximum was 20.5C when the sun pooped out for a short instance around noon.
Becoming rather overcast this evening with it drizzling and much cooler.

Our second heat-wave of spring maybe? :-k
Make that at least 3 'heat-waves' late last month, including Hamilton Aero, Gisborne Aero and Wairoa...

Some high energy weather systems/days incoming for the next week with plenty of instability around the country. Good chances for convective showers (and possibly thunderstorm risk) for different parts of Canterbury today, tomorrow, and Monday.,

I'm heading for Molesworth tonight and then a wee 85km run back to Hanmer tomorrow. Hoping the forecast winds let us have a decent sleep tonight in the tents!

That's a good run Razor, hard work and dusty but awesome fun (*4-person relay 3 years ago). Best of luck.

Seeing some cold upper air Monday, but not much moisture at the Canterbury coast.

Tomorrow evening has a small chance of thunder with a southerly flick. Surface moisture the issue though. But there are some favourable numbers.

Drove through the edge of that heavy rain that's heading through North Canterbury, just a little earlier on the way back to Chch. Air had a very humid, thundery feel to it so won't be surprised if it sparks up further north.

A mainly cloudy and humid feeling sort of day with light winds from the easterly quarter.
Lots of NW looking lenticular forms and the odd filling with some light spits of rain falling, moving from the SW.
Today's maximum being 24.4C.

Reasonable norwester on top of Mt Pleasant this morning, looks to turn to a fairly strong SW tonight. See if it can give those showers any extra oomph tonight.
