Heavy shower passing over Lyttelton, looks to be brief though. Oddly WSW, we don't get many from that direction.

Yesterday's wet system moved away overnight with it becoming fine overnight with a minimum temperature of 4.5C.
Fine day but with increasing As layers and a NE wind developing, with it clearing for a time early this afternoon.
Today's maximum was 19.3C.
Cloud increasing from the west later this afternoon and evening with a light southerly blowing.
Snow on Mt. Peel from yesterday.

Yes, even though it was a surface southerly direction yesterday, the rain we got here was mainly moving from the WSW.
Depending on from the surface to upper air dynamics, I don"t know how it can influence the rainfall. I noticed that the Southerly buster, recorded at Ashburton airport, the sky looked dry behind it, but then the cloud did thicken up from the west and the rain developed, especially here in South Canterbury. There were one or 2 isolated heavy falls with the rain. Just like the downpour we got at 4:15pm on Wednesday. :-k

MS going for 30mm in an afternoon for Chch, that volume that quick would cause issues round town, especially in the east

Gosh. There has been heaps of flooding around the north island this month. This time last year there was hints of a drought. Had been a wetter November here with some decent thunderstorms too

You've got to laugh, the Christchurch Gap is more than evident again...its uncanny how often this is happening this year. Now expecting 8mm if we are lucky, which is still good for the garden mind you

It should almost be called a thing.... The Christchurch Gap. Was thinking at least 10 to 15mm was a chance today, yet only 4mm so far with not a lot more it would seem.

Soggy lunchtime run in Amberley, finally put the new rain jacket to use! Reasonable amount of standing water coming back into town though.
