that is the wettest November recorded here (going back to the 60's) I am sure
We sometimes get to 250mm in a month here but that is normally in June or July some winters
or from the rain from tropical cyclone in Feb/Mar (back in the 60's that did happen)

MetService November 2020 SummaryBoom or bust rainfall

During November, frequent lows swung across the north of the country, with short lived but heavy rain events affecting northern and eastern areas. The most notable was the extreme flooding event in Napier on the 9th, resulting in a State of Emergency being declared. A weather station in Napier City recorded in excess of 240mm across this event, while Napier Airport recorded about 150mm, despite only a 5km distance between them. This illustrates just how localised the downpours were.

November was wetter than normal across the North Island, as well as the upper South Island and in Canterbury. In stark contrast, high pressure prevailed over the south of the South Island, with a drier than usual month observed for Westland, Fiordland, Southland, and Otago.

November monthly temperatures were universally above average, with Christchurch hitting 25 degrees for the 5th day in a row on 17 November, officially putting the Garden City into a heatwave (five or more consecutive days, where the temperatures are at least five degrees above average).

The exception to the warmth was Wellington, Wairarapa and the Kaikoura Coast, which saw a cold end to the month. It was a very gloomy November in these regions, too, with Wellington recording its second cloudiest November on record by the tiniest of margins – 12 minutes – observing only 133.2 hours of bright sunshine during November. Wellington also recorded its second wettest November on record - it really was a miserable November in the Capital!
Note that NIWA's central Napier site (Nelson Park) also recorded 325mm for the month, including 250mm on the 9th, with 211mm of that falling in 6 hours and 101mm in just 2 hours. Other notable Nov rainfalls include 302mm at MetService's Wainuiomata site (Wgtn) and 287mm at their New Plymouth Aero site.

I see this spring was NZ's 5th warmest on record according to NIWA. Interesting that 4 of those 5 warmest springs have occurred during La Nina conditions, including NZ’s warmest spring in 1988.

This year has also been steadily tracking to be NZ's 7th warmest year on record. We'd need an extremely warm December (at least 1.4C above normal) to make it among the top 5 warmest years. Might be a bit of a stretch though, particularly given the recent cooling trend of our latest Tasman 'marine heatwave'.

The spring just gone will be remembered for its one nasty Sep frost that knocked out 99% of my apple crop and all the stone fruit, the first time in 20 years to have lost the apple crop

^ Wow, that's sad news Richard. :(
Yes, also some record breaking daily cold temps in the S.I. during Sep, particularly that brutal polar blast at month's end.
