Major flooding event, Napier 9-11 Nov 2020

Apparently there was a lot of flooding in Napier according to the media with lots of people putting up on social media, filming footage through their "doors and curtains"

That's what happened to Northland in July . No rain drought then flooding rain

The Napier flooding could warrant a separate thread?
Sounds rather serious. Looks Iike a large part of the Onekawa Industrial area is well underwater. Having worked in the area in the past, the water will have flooded many businesses based on this photo I found on twitter (comparison with streetview). Very sad for all the businesses.

Garage flooded, sounds of water sloshing in the walls, but strangely enough still have power.
I can't figure out how to post photos, but a state of emergency has been declared on Napier.

We go up for the Art Deco festivals, so hopefully no buildings have been damaged?
Thinking about the recent Havelock North water issue and the land that was raised by the Napier earthquake, the area between Hastings and Napier could be likely area to flood, especially around Clive.

Friend lives on farmland in Meanee just out of Napier. So far he has recorded 160mm today. 95+ % of that in under 12 hours.
House was luckily built on a raised area of land. Farmland around him mostly submerged.

Certainly was a nasty convergence zone that locked onto Napier. The low is on the move again, which should move the convergence and ease the rain overnight but the damage is done unfortunately.

wasn't it just this morning Napier city council talked about water restrictions on the news?
also I see in the Auckland city council rates newsletter talk about rural areas to plan ahead to fill water tanks with a forecasted try summer?

Interesting to see what the totals were around Hastings as compared to Napier?

Roads acting like drains.
Houses and garages flooded.
Lots of debris where waters receding.

Hastings only 70~80mm. Nothing except a brief heavy shower around 6pm today.
Napier a 'hot mess', poor bugga's.
Poly's tell us '1 in 250 year event'. Except this happens every 10 years or so. Napier was built on a swamp after all, and much of it is sub sea level.
