Re: Intense Tasman Low - Nov 24-26
Waiuku had a brief small tornado at 1pm
I was there. Most amazing updrafts I have seen and I spotted a funnel cloud lowering that was very brief and then have just now surveyed a narrow damage path...tiles off roofs garden fences blown down...in opposite directions...large trees having half their side snapped off.was really exciting

Caught that gulf line as it cranked up and launched off the North Shore towards Rangitoto.

Just had a torrential downpour here. You could hear it coming. 5mm fell in 5 minutes. No hail though, or thunder.

Also reports of a tornado in Te Awamutu around 3pm?
Several Te Awamutu locals have now reported seeing a tornado rip through the area, with some saying it toppled trees, fences and powerlines.

Lucky, not a drop of rain all day here, wondering if we will get any at all.NZ Thunderstorm Soc wrote: ↑Wed 25/11/2020 16:30 Just had a torrential downpour here. You could hear it coming. 5mm fell in 5 minutes. No hail though, or thunder.

It absolutely pist down here around 4:20pm. You could hear it coming. Never seen rain like it. Definitely a 'downpour' like what you see in the weather forecasts for the North Island. Deafening on the conservatory roof. Sadly some of our peony roses got damaged.Richard wrote: ↑Wed 25/11/2020 17:01Lucky, not a drop of rain all day here, wondering if we will get any at all.NZ Thunderstorm Soc wrote: ↑Wed 25/11/2020 16:30 Just had a torrential downpour here. Interesting sky with it.
Not very good forecasting initially from MS when they forecasted a day of drizzle and low cloud or patchy rain

Interesting definitely ef0 damage. The thunderstorm that came over my house I saw a brief funnel cloud but as I was about to take a photo it dissipated. Was good cg lightning though

I just read that on Twitter it wasn't a tornado but flooding damage. The guy who posted said he rushed it and wrote tornado not flooding.

^ Maybe, but Newshub said 'several Te Awamutu locals have now reported seeing a tornado rip through the area, with some saying it toppled trees, fences and power lines'.

I have seen photos of tree damage in Te Awamatu
I talked to a guy repairing his roof in Waiuku and he said he talked to someone who was walking along who saw a funnel

Re: Intense Tasman Low - Nov 24-26
Any reports of hail? Some of the forecast soundings looked pretty conducive for it, large hail even - high CAPE, relatively dry aloft and good bulk shear of 45 to 60 knots...

Interesting there, Will.Willoughby wrote: ↑Wed 25/11/2020 19:01 Any reports of hail? Some of the forecast soundings looked pretty conducive for it, large hail even - high CAPE, relatively dry aloft and good bulk shear of 45 to 60 knots...
We had a torrential rain shower here around 4:15pm local time. Un forecasted off course.
Here's a photo I took looking over our back garden as it fell down.
You can tell by the streaks of rain, it was a heavy fall,

Apparently a car's windscreen was seen to be smashed by a large hail stone in Te Awamutu, according to a local Facebook user in the Newshub report above.
