Into December and...back into spring - the PV making its presence felt with a few bouts of westerlies before it allows La Nina control later in the month.

Yes. It's a bit like winter into spring, this year.
The last day of winter it got to 24C, then the next day, the first day of Spring, it snowed.

Some short memories guys, early in the month we had over 25C 5 days in a row in chch.
19C in Auckland this time of year would be about a normal average.

Its been a cold end to November, wet to but very welcome on the plains.

Next thunder chance we have will be Saturday. Upper cold pool crossing south island afternoon/pm
An actual set up or just another tease? Will have to see

Indeed I'm seeing about 3 thunder set up days coming in the models :-$, a much better scenario we like to see for this time of the year.
It has been wet and changeable but not all that much for the city and the penninsula, just a measly 5mm yesterday while other areas got 15mm+.

Nothing for us but some dying fronts, humid next week which may support a better rain chance mid next week.

It was nice and clear and blue once the NW cloud cleared but now it it hazy looking towards the west.
Probably strong winds whipping up the dust?

Wee shower in Kaikoura just now.

Saturday looks interesting, guessing heating is the main element at play as change looks afternoon-ish at a quick glance.

Editing as I walked outside half an hour ago to this overhead and in the distance:

Was a good blow here in ChCh for a couple of hours this evening. Off down country tomorrow to Paradise Station, then Kepler Challenge Saturday and home via Alexandra after that. Expecting a lot of wind.

A NW sort of day with NW Arch cloud moving across from noon to a fine sunny day, however as the afternoon wore on the sky becoming hazy with probably higher wind development. Today's maximum was 25.5C. NW winds picking up this evening from 9pm.

Very steep lapse rates over the east of the South Island on Saturday point to hail, possibly large. A limiting factor may be the moisture, need a proper onshore wind to bring it in.

Looks very warm for the north of the country early next week with high 20's temps possible. GFS indicates the warm advection will produce a lot of elevated storms in Tasman which will affect upper western South Island early week.

Temperatures in the mid to high twenties for a few days next week will combine with 18C dps upper North Island to give us the first real taste of humid weather for this season.

Not a breath of wind in Kaikoura all night. Very warm start to the day, not a cloud in the sky.

A fine and sunny day with blue dome skies and a moderate to fresh westerly blowing for much of the day before turning more East/SE from late afternoon and then dying out this evening. Today's maximum was 24C.
