Convection will be suppressed in the Nth Is unless the cold pool moves far enough north on Friday and weekend. Looks like the East South Is only at this stage. Sea temps are warmer than normal around NZ but also significally warmer in the tropics and nearer Australia. With this and the hot OZ land mass us folk in the North are under subsiding stable air unfortunately .Fingers crossed the cold pool will can interact with all the heat and moisture here at present and give us some storms soon.!!!.

Cloudy morning with light winds, slowly clearing away from noon but remaining cloudy with some weak Cu forms, peaking through the lower cloud, along the foothills.
Rather hazy for much of the day but becoming fine out to the coast.
Higher cloud Cc and Cs layers later in the afternoon and evening.
Today's maximum was 24C.

Steady rain in Chch at the moment, reasonably large drops at that. Looking very interesting on Christmas Day if you go just by the Metservice 3-day rain charts, coastal South Canterbury could get a lot of rain. Chances inland tomorrow as well. Santa will face some turbulence coming and going this year!
