Suddenly a lot of white on the radar, heading for the city. Severe storm getting organised?

Constant thunder and lightning approaching Rolleston.

Edit: followed by heavy rain and hail. Kids loving it.

Thunder booming again, from that incoming storm. This is turning out to be a heck of a drought-breaker of a day!

One close strike here in Somerfield, otherwise a fairly quiet storm here. No hail, heavy-ish rain. Good for the garden :)

Same in Parklands. Saw some flashes in the distance but all it was here was rain and hail.

Just a spell of heavy rain, with a bit of hail in St Albans, along with gusty winds and a few flashes of lightning.

Nice one there, Andrew. It was probably the only rumble of thunder I heard today which came from that direction?

Very successful chase day, been out since 1 30pm. Caught these beauty photos from the first initial storms from Geraldine/ timar area..then travelled back north and inland from ashburton where more storms developed off mt peel.. chased it all the way north into Christchurch. Some good CGs along the way! The hail would of been 10mm so quite small for a day like today. Celebration drink tonight for good successful day.

Last two photos are just nice cumulus forms after a great days chasing!

A few pics nabbed from FB of yesterdays storm. I thought there'd be more pics floating around to be honest cause it was quite impressive out here.

The Canterbury high country stayed fine throughout the event just as models and Metservice predicted....Some nice CBs observed from Lake Heron towards the plains
