For Christchurch perhaps christmas night when convection develops on the mid Canterbury coast.

The models we were looking at 12 days ago look to have given reasonable guidance for Xmas day.
Thats what im seeing aswel steven. Thunder and hail risk tonight but late at night. Merry Christmas to all 🎄🎄

Great rain alright in the last 24h. Had to drive to Rangiora to pickup the ol man, drove through a real heavy rain near the Hurunui pub. Gray wet down there, patches of blue here at the moment.

Otago this afternoon/ evening. SW change around midnight tonight, im picking the risk to be mid coastal Canterbury and going off shore. Good moisture there and onshore winds before the change

Looks like a big storm southwest of Dunedin, according to radar. Coming onto light rain now in Akaroa.

This is pushing into 'not Christmas Day' territory but it starts at 11pm, I'm now under a heavy rain watch as the low wraps around:

Not seeing thunder for Chch going by Metservice, so expectations are low. Had a good bike ride out from Little River to Birdlings Flat this arvo, not as much fun going back into the noreaster along Lake Forsyth however! [-X

Mary Christmas everyone
Just come back from Washdyke after spending Christmas Day there with relatives.
Not much observing the weather as we spent the day there eating, drinking, socialising, whatever.
Rather overcast and a not-eventful day but with some patches of blue sky to the south.
