Re: General January Weather
Spent some unplanned extra time up at the Wharfedale Track car park yesterday, the wind was rocking the car pretty well at times! Came out nice and sunny early arvo after a cloudy morning.

Auckland weather turns humid today with dps around 17C, a mostly sunny week ahead after today. A weak front crossing today, models picked the weak front a week ago.

It all kicks off first few days of Feb. I suspect the Feb general weather thread will be a long one...

Below average temps for Auckland last few days.
Looks like we should get a temperature spike from Wednesday to Friday.

EC has buttoned off a bit on it this morning but last nights run had it when I got up at 5am. Now I see the GFS has now floated the idea.Awhituobs wrote:latest ECMWF model run has a low from north moving south quickly over NZ for the 1st Feb

Feeling warm under the sun in Amberley, up around 26-27C at the moment with little wind. Tomorrow will be a water-after-work day!
Thunder/hail risk Southland-Canterbury on Thursday by the looks.

Re: General January Weather
Warm day here with it peaking out at 29.4C.
Westerly winds turning more southerly from 4pm, with it cooling down and low cloud moving in from this evening.
Interesting to see how much of a scorcher the next 2 days will bring with all that publicity from the media from MS.

Re: General January Weather
Why have this on the Christchurch MS page if it's so horribly wrong (NZ fire service fire danger is moderate)

Re: General January Weather
It's worth noting a low to possibly moderate risk of storms tomorrow afternoon through mid inland Canterbury northwards, maybe out on the plains too.
Possibly simular to last Thursday actually but with more of a shift inland later on.
I initially thought it would be too warm for storms but upper air is around - 24c which is good enough in mid summer, tot,s running in at 55 as well for a time.
Moderately strong upper jet so 10-15mm hail.
But abit more moisture on the latest runs so should be a good dollop of rain for many areas after this heat.
