That surface NE is a bit stronger than forecast, this is going to make this afternoon a bit more interesting.

Te kauwhata, rangiriri, west Huntly seems to be a breeding ground today. I’m in the outflow crap from that.

Plenty of lightning thunder here in northern Waikato, some nice Cgs observed, a much better day today than yesterday.

TK cells now merged into one line and a warning is out for them. Semi-regular IC lightning with fairly boomy thunder.

... torrential rain at times today in Pt Chev, lots of lightning and nearby solid cracks of thunder ... 30,000 ltr underground rainwater tanks up to 52% now, from 18% before yesterday & today’s rounds of storms 😊👍 ...

A little wedge of clear skies has come right across to Cambridge. Steamy sunshine here now.

Supercell heading E-SE near Timaru currently, spotted the hooks on radar before and confirmed photos of a tornado in the area.
Heading south to intercept, cell is huge to view.

Currently standing up on the 'Downs' with John looking at an amazing storm to the South. We recon the wall cloud is about 20 km long.

Is that supercell turning up the coast? I see the severe TS watch extends to about Rolleston until 10pm.

Edit - watch, not warning

The storms in Waikato have been near stationary back building all day. If you were under it you would have been drowned. I have been on the edge of the exhaust of the northern Waikato storm. Thunder all afternoon and on and off light rain.
Another day where I’ve missed the rain we so badly need.

Can see that storm did go out to sea, however it looks like a gust front might be developing just north of Rangitata going by the faint line of bugs on the radar. Or it's just the southerly change.

Towers rapidly building overhead and to the south of Ashburton but the southerly may get here before the storms can mature.
