The breeze will keep things a little cooler tomorrow. The warmest days are always the ones with the lightest winds. Should still exceed 30 though.

Cheviot's NIWA EWS peaked at 37.8deg.
One very hot night coming up

Cheviot's previous Jan record was 37.3C set in 2018 since records began there in 1983.

Could have sworn it was .8 and not .6 when I posted above, oh well, still a record.

30C now in Hagley Park, I left Amberley on 38C. Both readings from the car which I believe to be reasonably accurate. Edit after getting home at 8pm, 35 leaving Hagley, 32.7C in Lyttelton.

NIWA reckon that Ashburton Aero's 39.3C today makes it NZ's 2nd hottest ever Jan temp on record, after Timaru's 40.0C in 1908.

Rolleston peaked on 38C today now a warm 26C at 10:43pm. Dont think she will go much lower than 22 tonight.

Should be another scorcher today, I was thinking maybe not as bad as yesterday as the 850mb is around 17c today.
But with no high cloud this morning and light winds again, we've had a 6C rise in an hour and it's now 22c at 8am.
37C possibly today, will be worse today too much more drier so no light macinery work unless you have a spark arrestor.

Yep already 24.3c at ChCh Aero 8am as mentioned above. Not much cloud currently and light winds. That’s already 8c warmer than it was at this time yesterday.

Yep, just been outside in that. Absolutely tiring trying to do any physical activity. The heat peak is normally after 2pm so I would expect it to go much higher too.
