A dull grey day of low cloud and clagg for today as high pressure zipped in quite quickly behind the low that moved across the lower SI yesterday.
Daytime maximum was just 15C with 2.6mm of drizzle/light rain overnight and this morning.

Not the same as that but GFS and EC both currently model a deep low coming out of the Southern Ocean early March and possibly interacting with either an ex-TC or subtropical low (haven't looked at that). Worth keeping an eye on.

Before that, looks like NW gets established next week for a few days, hopefully a top-up for the hydro lakes but not much rain for the Canterbury Plains in that time. Could change if the above comes off.

It has been a very settled year so far, Auckland airport last 30days showing only 4 days with rain.
Sea breeze convergence showers have become a rarity over recent years.

Awful day here with clagg. You often get good days on the coast when the weather is dull over here'
Forecasting thunderstorms inland today for some strange reason?

An awful grey day here with low cloud and clagg, not much wind.
Today's maximum was 18C.
Here are some action shots taken today of the dramatic weather we had down here in Geraldine, today.

February 2021 was another generally very dry and sunny month (except for the Far North) to top of a mostly dry summer. Temps bounced around a little, with a notable 5-6 day 'heatwave' in inland north Canterbury, but overall balanced out close to normal.
MetService February 2021 Summary - A mainly settled end to summer

High pressure was never too far away in February with plenty of settled weather to end summer, but with a few notable exceptions. A low from the Southern Ocean on Wednesday 10th, and Tasman lows on Monday 15th, and Wednesday 24th all brought wet and windy weather. The mid-month low brought severe gales and drenching rain to much of North Island, and Kerikeri saw 140mm of rain in a day. The Far North was the only district to see well above average rainfall for the month. Most of us saw a drier than average February this year, especially Waikato, Manawatu-Whanganui, southern Hawke’s Bay, Canterbury, Otago, and the West Coast. Soil moisture remains very low for much of North Island, and the upper and eastern South Island.

Inland Waikato, inland Marlborough and Nelson, Central Otago, Fiordland, and Westland south of Franz Joseph all saw a warmer than average month. Taranaki to Wellington ran cool, as did parts of coastal Gisborne. Elsewhere the temperatures balanced out near normal.

Barring the most southwestern tip of Fiordland and Northland north of Whangarei, the whole country enjoyed a sunnier than average last month of summer.
