So this dry period should continue till towards the end of March?
For some, not for others. Pick and mix. You might just get a juicy fruit.

"Nether, Neither, Nor" weather I call it.
Overcast this morning with some light drizzle but clearing away to become a fine day but with lots of high cloud.
Warm with 26C for today with light easterlies.

24C in Lyttelton at 7am this morning, 16C when I got to Ferrymead 30 mins later then up to 22C around Leithfield at 8:15am.

Very hot in Amberley this afternoon. I had 34C on the car leaving work and it can't have been far off that. Douglas Rd weather station was on 32C around mid-afternoon. 29C in Hagley Park now.

Low cloud cleared away this morning to reveal a thick NW Arch which remained in place all day and into the evening, rendering temperatures to remain at the same level all day and into the evening. Only 22.7C was the maximum which remained at that figure all day and into the evening. Northerly winds. 22.2C at 10pm.

Certainly a few warm days lately, but NIWA map of average temps to date still has the greater part of NZ cooler than normal.

Early days for the year, I would read little into that at this stage, personally

Entertainment value only - Canadian model losing its marbles on the 00z run in the first week of March. These Goliaths come off every 30 to 50 years from the tropics. GFS has the same ex-tc riding the ridge around 6 days later with a lot less punch.

Nor'west arch still very defined, the cloud turning golden, orange and now scarlet in the sunset.

NW wind strong today out in the country, some dust evident in the Rangitata Gorge and when looking out to the eastern horizon.

Currently 23.1°C

25c at 10pm in Christchurch city, port hills currently 26.5 at 10:15pm incredible temps. 10.8c DP and 43% humidity. The southerly change can’t come soon enough for my good nights sleep :-(

Another fine day day with thick NW Arch cloud for much of the day. Warmer than yesterday with it getting up to 27.6C with no sunshine except later in the day when the sun set in behind the Arch. Breezy NW winds for much of the day before dying down and turning to a light Southerly around 9pm.
It was a mild night too when the temperature only dropped down to 19C.
Some sunset photos.

Well that was one of the worst sleeping nights Ive ever had in Christchurch. Was unbearably hot and still over 22c at midnight. Times like that I wish I had a heat pump in my room.

General pattern looking a bit less stable now for NZ according to GFS/EU. Good to see.

Cracking sunset last night in Kaikoura, extremely low NW arch underlit by fire colours. Hot day yesterday, but cooled overnight to a pleasant one this morning.

Nothing like a cold shower on nights like them :D Remember the Black Saturday bushfires when it didnt go below 28deg, a hot NW all night, never had a night anywhere as warm as that one since.
