The prolonged spells of NE flow and rain events we associate with a La Nina Summer failed to arrive.

Looks like a reasonable summer for most of NZ. Sunshine numbers look OK.

Convection wise I think the summer was above average for many areas except for the west of the South Island and the central North Island.

The last few weeks it dried out but apart from that it was a green summer for here, which is rare. Its was odd how the SI benefited from the La Nina and not the north though.

A little dry but not too bad here rain-wise:

Dec 14mm
Jan 87mm
Feb 72mm

For a season total of 173mm, vs just 63mm the previous summer.

I moved to Sydney from Pokeno at the end of November (having moved back from the UK in February) and the impact of La Niña - frequent humid NEerlies, rain, thunderstorms - has been significant here. More to come over the next week or so. Not quite what I had hoped for but no doubt good for the environment and farmers after last summer.

I can't agree with that. Lots of outdoors fun over summer with the kids, and many kilometres of trails in the Port Hills stomped accross. Its been a good one to my mind.

Same, slightly above average IMO. Would have been better if I didn't have to work in late Jan and parts of Feb when chch city hit the 30+ temps. Loved getting out in the port hills on the weekends
