Nice storm up near waimak today. The storms in ashburton/ mt peel area will either strengthen as they head north or turn into a complete rain band.

Great lightening visible here too. Just passing across to our North and heading out to sea. A few spots of rain, but nothing of note

Caught one loud roll of thunder from that Waimak storm, but the sunset show of lightning was something I haven't seen in a long time. Amazing. 10/10 would watch again!

Sure did. Canterbury's big skies doing their thing.

Activity to the southwest still going, might make it to the city.

Continuous thunder here now, which is very rare for North Canterbury. Appears to be 3 cells firing off to the north and west of here, each flashing every 7-9 seconds, so considerable overlap in the thunder generated. Still dry, no rain.

Frequent flashing from both directions here. Strange as it appears there is very frequent sheet lightning happening to the north and then more dramatic looking lightening to the southwest.

I’m in at Albans and it’s not raining now and we’ve only had 0.6mm so far. Hoping for some more although Metservice have backed the rain right off.

Similar in Lyttelton, lower on the lightning frequency but the rain is intense. Can't see the harbour very well! So good to get a real rainfall event.

Spouting is overflowing, that was very torrential.

I see metservice now mentioning a moderate chance for Christchurch tomorrow afternoon/evening. Managed to get just under 7mm from this so far. Might get another 2mm tops. Monthly total now 23mm and 73mm for YTD.

Great thunder activity tonight! No photos captured as the bolts were just big flashes really. Cracking thunder!

Tomorrow sees another chance now to. Perhaps not as good set up as today looked but still a risk as we continue the series of cold SW changes!

Just got 30mm of rain in 20 minutes! Some small to moderate hail mixed in as well. A few heavy thunder strikes overhead at times.
