Re: General August Weather
Frosty initially overnight but then it clouded over but cleared away during the morning to become fine and sunny and warm in sunny areas out of the wind. Slight NE here.
A few cloud build ups to the south this afternoon with that cold glaciaition look about them.
Some photos I took today looking south from Geraldine.
Today's maximum was 12.6C.

Bloody wet this afternoon. More than I was expecting. Nearly 20mm. Really heavy too. Up to 3mm/min at the peak not long ago.

Re: General August Weather
8mm here this afternoon so far.
Last time we had 20+mm in a day was back in May, no wonder the yearly rain has been getting further and further below average.

Re: General August Weather
That’s amazing your still missing the rain. I’m only 150mm behind average year to date. Two average rainfall months in a row (June and July) plus a good start to august so far with 40mm so far already.

Re: General August Weather
After the current system moves off it looks like a succession of NW/ SW cycles with some vigorous looking fronts moving up country

Re: General August Weather
Not much in the event of precipitation overnight and this morning, all out to sea moving north.
Cold day though with a rather cold WSW wind. Odd cloudy periods from cloud moving from the SW.
Today's maximum was 8.3C.
Here's a photo of some SW lenticular forms over the 4 Peaks area from the SW airflow over that region later this afternoon.

Re: General August Weather
Last night the wind blew strong till 6pm then had died to nothing by 8pm resulting in a -2.3C frost. The interesting thing is still hardly any wind now despite the isobars over the country.

Re: General August Weather
plenty of wind here on the coast
that cold air sitting ground level will be hard to shift, ie the wind will be blowing at higher altitudes

Re: General August Weather
True, but by 12:30pm when I wrote that it was 12.5C so thought any temperature inversion making breeze go over the top would have broken. The breeze has penetrated now.Awhituobs wrote:plenty of wind here on the coast

Re: General August Weather
we reached 15.4c here , with a fresh onshore SW wind, so still warmer than the cold air in land (which is denser and hard to get moving)

Re: General August Weather
A warm day here which was interesting despite the conditions and the recent weather event.
Cold overnight but warmed up before sunrise with a westerly influence to be 5C around sunrise with a totally clear sky.
Scattered cloud moving north in a SW this morning with a clearance for a wee while before high cloud started moving in from the west.
Not much wind. Today's maximum was 16.7C.
