Just drove back to Christchurch from Methven an hour ago. Went home Thompsons Track Snowing in Methven with large flakes well settled on the ground. Snow stopped at Lauriston turned to sleet rain, then rain all the way to ChCh

It’s 3C colder in Darfield up the road then here in West Melton, how’s that even possible with only 100m difference in elevation?

There is Suttle differences which make big differences, the sea often warms the eastern fringes but the further inland you go it starts to rapidly cool. Which lowers the freezing level there. It will also depend how heavy the precip is with the evaporative cooling affect

If the coastal plains/ chch gets snow it won't be until tonight/ Monday morning. But hey.. for weather enthusiasm sake I hope we get a surprise

Currently at My Parents House in Ashburton. Been getting Snow showers coming in waves for 5-10mins but not settling then turning back to sleety rain, Feel like were right on the edge of the snowline. Apparently 1-2cm of snow at Home at 100m in South Canterbury But clearing up.

Will keep an eye on any light showers that might come through on Monday, but this is likely the GFS being a little "approximate". I'm yet to witness anything close to grapukel or snowflakes around here as was on holiday in Queenstown during the 2011 event. My parents say some definite snowflakes mixed with rain fell for about 5min in about 1980. On the farm at 60m ASL just out of town.Image

Looks to be all over here for this part of the system, snowline looked to be around 150m asl so EC did very well in that department…

Heavy rain with a thunderstorm at 9 o'clock this morning here in Tawa, north of Wellington. Steady rain since but holding at ten degrees for now. Keeping an eye on Colonial Knob whenever it appears through an easing of the mist and low cloud to see whether any snow accumulates later today or overnight. The gusty northerly has eased somewhat.

It has been wonderful watching the snow out the window at work (supermarket) but of course it brings in all of the apocalyptic panic buyers. It has stopped now but hoping it starts again this evening.

Snowing properly here now with temp +1.6. Seems to have spread towards the coast a little earlier than modelled.
