It's had a few goes in the last half hour in Amberley with the radar through Ashburton and west of Chch now looking more impressive. Would be nice to see a settling layer but the ground is very wet.

Snow showers have been coming and going all morning here in Amberley, and the last one was a bit heavier with large flakes.

Light snow flurries here, seem to be more wind associated, the stronger the wind/breeze, the more of it.

Wind speed normally rises with showers/squalls due to rising/falling air associated with them. So the wind change is caused by the shower.

Power is now back on now fortunately..
As it was a controlled power cut/outage, people should of been notified, especially because of the current cold weather event. [-X

Was similar in Chch, but it's about 10C warmer this afternoon. Cold spell definitely over here.

Beautiful scenes driving through Greta Valley and across the Hundalees this morning with snow lying right up to the road, 4C much of the way there then 12C as soon as we got to Oaro. Not as much around Cheviot-Ferniehurst though. Low snow on the Seaward Kaikouras, melting quickly lower down but the lowest level I've seen there in years.

Not a lot of point going up the Kaimais yesterday as it was clear. The strong wind flow over the top put me off it big time. Today I went down as far as Opotiki expecting to see snow on the Ureweras etc. There was a little, but it was gone by mid-day. IMO up here it wasn't as big an event as forecasted. We only got down to 4.1°C this morning. No severe frost and a beautiful blue dome day.

Quick look across at the Seaward Kaikouras this morning, snow still hanging around down to about 2-300m (particularly in more shaded spots) which is the base of the mountains where it transitions from the flats. Simply stunning mountain views today.
