After a shower or two overnight, it was a lovely fine and mild day with a light NE. Today's maximum was 20.3C under a light NE.

Twixt the pinky/orangey sunrises and sunsets, it was a rather mild day with NW breezes for much of the day.
21.1C for today with lots of stretched out cloud from the NW.

Late this year, the Spring Equinox is not until this Thursday at 0721hrs, when we see the sun mostly over the Southern Hemisphere for the next 6 months.

Some cloud around but basically a nice sunny day. The high cloud in Lawrence's picture above would be so as it was like that to the north of here.
Light Ne wind. 19C for today.

lots of steady rain overnight , 47mm, and I see Auckland city has over 40mm too, so that is great for the water storage dams

I see Jamie in the Waikato got 55mm in total, with it still raining, but will clear soon
very warm rain too, 15c all night
will be great for grass growth for the farmers! (although it might be a bit of a problem with feed utilisation as its now wet under foot)

I see it looks like October is going to start off settled with a high parked over the north island
which is unusual for October, so another sign of La Nina

63mm here. Came down hard just before the change. Up over 60mm/hr for a sustained period. Flooding about to levels I haven’t seen in 4-5 years. But that was the last time it flooded at all. 4 years of no heavy rain events causing flooding. Rain seems to be back to normal now.

That burst which hit here about 7:15am was impressive, was thinking it was 50mm/hr territory. Only lasted 5 min or so though. My Davis which has seemed to be reading a bit low in last 2 years recorded 39mm since midnight.

Sunday possibly looking thundery on GFS for various South Island parts, cold uppers moving over mid-morning into afternoon, looks like W/SE convergence near Chch. Snow levels lowering over Sat/Sun to 500m by Metservice wording, but nothing severe lower down.

Getting hammered again here. Releived this line is moving on radar, albeit slowly. 3-4 hrs of this rain rate would not be good.

Another fine sunny day here in Geraldine with light northerlies.
Today's maximum was 21C a bit warmer than Timaru which had probably sea breezes keeping temperatures down.

Sunday's change looking early morning now, so maybe low risk thunder/chance of small hail for Chch but more south and west for thunder risk on Saturday and maybe inland on Sunday where there is heating and orographic enhancement.
