Awoken earlier by blustery winds; light rain hitting west-facing windows; wondering whether I've seen a couple of flashes of lightning; currently 15°C.

Wind has been consistent here since yesterday evening.
In excess of 58 kph at one point.
Lovely sunny and warm day apart from that.A few spots of rain being blown around. Hopefully it should end in a few hours and be a little bit calmer.

Wind is really whipping through Ashburton now. Some cool looking mammatus developing overhead too.

Went for a run up in the hills earlier, difficult to stay in a straight line along Summit Road! Warm where the wind didn't touch. Very springy.

UK and GFS both upping the moisture for Chch tomorrow morning through lunch. Still low risk of thunder but it could be interesting if we get some good convergence.

A fine but windy day with NW winds fresh at times.
Rain band along the Alps with possible flashes overnight but I didn't see any.
Overthrow showers moving across from mid afternoon with the winds easing and becoming fine and clear after that.
Today's maximum was 20.8C. with 1.7mm of overthrow rain.

Easterly wind reported by MS's Lyttelton site, haven't been outside. Moderate risk now for the city but the airport reports a light westerly, so not sure. Showers approaching.

Just editing as the moderate risk was quickly removed by Metservice and they're keeping it inland for the day. Doesn't look thundery on radar for the coast but should be a reasonable rainfall this morning.

GFS has lost the plot at 8-10 day period with sea level snow to Wellington. That forecast can bugger right off (which it more than likely will anyway).

Nothing to report from down here, just your usual low cloud and clagg with a light SE. No noticeable southerly wind change as what I expected.
It did rain earlier this morning but now just some light drizzle.

Bright sunny afternoon here now. Total flop for us, a few spits of rain but the ground never got wet all day.

Two rain showers just after midday and about a hour ago. Banks Peninsula rainshadow effect over Chch? Radar's been looking far more active over the plains and foothills; reports of snow in Oxford and at upper edge of plains near Methven.

Yes, Ben, snow low down on Mt. Peel and the 4 Peaks. Photos later.
