Certainly looking like a Waipara south setup today, solid NW wind blowing here which, so, likely of anything happening at this stage, you never know though.

If anything I'd be looking at mid Canterbury. Timaru to ashburton best spots before it's likely to move offshore.
1pm chch sounding shows a small amount of instabilty 500mb shear not strong and lapse rates arnt that steep so I don't see the risk of severe today.

I do love a good storm. However, storms or not, what a cracking day it is in Ashburton. A slight breeze and beautiful clear skies.

Was very heavy briefly as it went through at 6am. Don't recall any thunder.

Nothing much happening down here. Light Southerly. a bit of cloud forming but nothing really gutsy looking.
Been sunny and warm at 23C.
see what happens later or tomorrow.
A bit of rain moving east to the south of Timaru according to the radar.

Thunder and lightning to the north of Ashburton. Wow just as I’m typing this an incredible crawler lit up the storm to the north.

House on fire in Winchmore. I wouldn’t rule out a lightning strike with the CG’s I saw earlier.

A thunderstorm did form and move out of TC towards the Ashburton area. Lots of thunder mainly cloud to cloud and I only saw one horizontal lightning flash near Woodbury where I chased today.

Here's a photo I took looking towards My. Peel a half an hour before I heard the first rumble from that area.

Some good reports there. Pretty much panned out as thought.
No chase for me today. Much better set ups to come

Not a terrible start to the thunderstorm season, skies looked quite good driving south towards town even though the thunder action had died away. Nice to see a chance.

Couple rumbles, small hail in Rolleston at work today. Not worthy of a chase but fun to watch unfold

Talking to Bob Crowder this evening. He said he heard a few rumbles around behind Sugarloaf but sounded distant but nothing much really.
