Yes. I noticed that Mike. Some lightning hits too.
Cloudy here this evening after a fine and warm start. Today's maximum was 23.1C just after midday in fine sunny conditions.
However clouding up this afternoon with a weak thunderstorm developing out of the TC area from unobvious looking clouds which moved out across the plains towards Ashburton then weakened. Only saw one lightning strike, not to the ground though, and heard lots of thunder, especially higher up, from my observation point near Woodbury.
11.6mm of rain recorded from this storm here with the street flooded again. Southerly winds for much of the , day but calm now.

Beautiful start to morning. Should be nice until mid afternoon when a SW picks up over the region and cloud creeps in. Perhaps a bit of rain later but that will be it.the more rain the better before any major dry spells.

Yes. It was a bit boring. Southerly arrived here a half an hour after forecasted, after a nice and fine sunny morning with a hint of an easterly.
Low boring stratus rolled in around noon with it becoming cool and overcast for the rest of the day and from 2pm coming onto rain and raining for the rest of the day before easing away later this evening. From 18.6C this morning, it cooled down to 10C this afternoon and dropping into the single figures later. 10.3C for today, sorry I mean 10.3 millimetres of rain.

Help please. Is it going to rain in Hamilton today or not? MetService saying it will but their models don’t agree.

If it does you will be able to count the raindrops on the fingers of one hand.

from about now in the year rain from the north for Auckland and the Waikato needs to be dialed back, it often does not come in as quickly or as much as the models indicate

2 cents worth.

The Hadley cell is definitely a lot further south than normal for October. Last year, it was further north enhancing the drought across the North Island and parts of the South Island. If it anchors poleward side of the South Island, this will draw the South Pacific convergence zone near NZ. La Nina water bombs will be on the menu in the months ahead, especially for the NI.

Picked up 5mm here overnight whilst the barometer continues to sit near 1029 hPa. A little unusual.

we are basicly in a convergence zone, with some cold air coming around the high from the other side of the high pushing up against warmer air coming down from the north wrapping aorund the tasman low
yes?

Should get into some warmer subtropical air here from Sunday. Quite humid N/NE through next week . The typical air flow here this time of year is southwesterly with central Tasman high pressure.

Yeah I think today is the start of the warmer weather inland. Went for drive up to the Mackenzie today and it was much warmer up there than what it was at home, the Easterly at home felt cool this evening.

Good to have the above weather related postings on the forum rather than medical ones
Yes, it would be a nice day up there. Last Saturday was a good day there for our flight around Aoraki/Mt.Cook.
Today it was a fine day with a cool but light NE.
Warm in sheltered area with it getting to 20C today before a maceral Sc clouds moved across from the north.
