Cambridge got dumped on between about 5:30pm and 6:30pm going by local PWS's... 8-o
Yes, was very localised but the rain was intense, particularly in Cambridge town centre. Was up there with any rain I've seen for intensity. Would have stopped to record it but decided to get home in case needed to unblock any drains.

Yes still looks like the best chance we have had since early January storms this year. Good shear and steep lapse rates tomorrow should enhance the forcing.
Chance severe hail tomorrow going by gfs.

A few punchy looking clouds going up here today as the clagg of the past few days clears.
Might be good indicator for tomorrows thunderstorms as the ULL moves across ?

Timing/northward push of the southerly change looks poor for Chch, looks better down south.

Yes will head south early probably want to be down in south Canterbury/ timaru by midday.
Tomorrow's outlook on MS I'd agree on. Their last few outlooks i haven't seen what they have been looking at.
Storms may well push inland and into North Canterbury later on. But I think the spot to be will be the timaru area.

If we get a chance John we will stop by.

Clouding in here and coming onto rain in a sort of a 'Claytons' thunderstorm situ. Calm.
Off to Temuka tomorrow afternoon but should be around later if you want to pop in, Mike.
If the truck is parked up the drive, I should be at home.

Thanks for the reply. It’s just me at home with the kids tomorrow so I won’t be able to head out. I am fortunate to have a great view from my lounge room window so I’ll be watching closely from there. I hope the forecast verifies and you guys get something worth chasing.

There was a heavy shower west of here today that I thought was close to giving off a electrostatic discharge, had that look about it.

Another rather cloudy day but becoming brighter this morning with the sun popping out of the clouds a few times.
Wind back to the NE and becoming moderate at times. Some cloud build ups from early afternoon resulting with it coming onto rain from 4pm.
Rain easing this evening with 6.3mm falling. Today's maximum was 18C when the sun came out late morning.

Some heavy late showers last night in Lyttelton, mostly clear skies this morning though expectation is low for thunder chances later. Hope those further south and also those chasing get a good show.

Beautiful day here today. Currently 22 degrees and the wind direction has just gone from a light NW to a light easterly. Looking forward to seeing how the next few hours play out.

The chc thunderstorm exclusion zone looks to be as well defended as ever.

Nothing that Metservice raised the severe risk to moderate and extended down to Dunedin. Storms already in progress in eastern Southland/Otago.

Thunderstorm has just travelled over the Otago Peninsula and out to sea. Very frequent lightning. Often another flash while still hearing the last peal. Don't usually see them that active here.

Some cumulus visible out to sea from Lyttelton, mostly clear but there are a few high level clouds including some motoring along (cirrus/isolated cirrocumulus) showing the upper forcing is good.

Edit - I thought I noticed a severe TS and almost a short bowing line to its north on the Otago radar and MS have just put out a warning for it approaching Waikouaiti.
