Back to the clagg all-right with some rain/drizzle overnight and this afternoon.
16.5C for today with 1.7mm of drizzly precipitation.
Indeed a cold, sunless and damp start for summer down here.

Our long humid spell is coming to an end. Grey Lynn with an average minimum of 18.5C for December so far, the average maximum 24.4C, surely record warmth for the first couple of weeks of December.

The general outlook next 10 days is showing mostly stable and dry for northern NZ but we will keep a watch on the tropics.

Quite the change coming up for the weekend after the past few days' events. A hot airmass being drawn across from Australia with westerlies re-establishing themselves for a few days, depending on sunshine eastern areas could challenge the low to mid-thirties.

So much rain! I see Palmy airport has recorded 255 mm over the last 30 days up to yesterday and it's raining solidly again this morning. Looks as if today's about the end of it for now though.

Certainly has been damp! Wellington is sitting on 206mm for the past 10 days at Kelburn.

I "may" be partly to blame.... I carefully gave the vege garden a good watering 11 days ago ;)
When the sun does come out (which Metservice tweeted about how little there has been in the same period), I reckon you can HEAR the grass growing!

I think I might be to blame too, I finished painting a fence on Monday evening thinking there was enough time for the paint to dry and half an hour later the thunderstorms moved in. Sorry guys. o_O

The rain has finally stopped here and now there's this bright round thing in the sky which seems to be throwing off a lot of light and warmth. What is it?

I think it's called The sun/Sol or something like that. Apparently it shines continually above the clouds during daylight hours. There is another object which they called the Moon or Lunar or something like that, which glows above the clouds when that sun thing shines on the other side of this planet.
Hardly seen the sun or moon so far his summer down in this neck of the woods

Think it's safe to say we won't be having a drought this season.
More rain for Canterbury today with a SW flow dominating for a couple of days.

Later this evening there is another small flick coming up the coast, a small trough which could produce some heavy showers/ thunder mainly for south can'terbury and flick up the coast

Towers starting to go up to my south. Radar shows a decent heavy shower forming near Timaru.

Interesting. :-k
just come back from a trip up to the Downs for a look and saw basically nothing down there?
Radar sounding showing a few blobs in the cloud further south around North Otago. maybe that's the area they are referring to??
I see it has now been lifted.

Interesting thunderstorm here today. Moved in after 4.01pm. Still going on as it moved north.
NE winds penetrating into it as it moved north with a brief period of strong southerlies and initial hail drops and then torrential rain as the crux of the storm moved over. No obvious cloud forms to indicate thunderstorm activity with thunder rolling along from bright areas of the cloud rather than dark areas. :-k

Heavy spillover rain in Lyttelton. I had my doubts about today but that radar is excellent down there.

It didn't seem to come from TC but from a more southerly direction, possibly where MS did a brief Severe Thunderstorm Watch this afternoon.
Could of been the atmospheric dynamics from this brief STW over the Hunters Hills for that warning that produced today's thunderstorm, here.?
