Also a large amount of lightning detected from that area by the Boltek here, and some located by Blitzortung. Could see a lot in the background sky of one of the tsunami videos

Another sizeable eruption in the last 20 mins by the look of it, very large number of lightning detections from there..

Re: Tonga Eruption
Hannah & Al in Perth WA, Au tried to hear it. I was watching the pressure wave coming in on various PWS across the continent. Sadly they only got about 1.5 hPa rise, whereas we had about 4. Also here we have a clear path in that direction & they had hills. Here in Tauranga currently we are experiencing some kind of Tsunami related surges which are causing issues.

Re: Tonga Eruption
The "Hunga-Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai" volcanic eruption looks huge judging from I've seen of various U tube footage. \
Looks like a new volcanic island forming from it. Probably end up like a Whakaari/White Island sort of island ?

Here's Geonet's latest de-tided NZ Tsunami Gauge Network Chart. I think that's East Cape and Great Barrier Island that goes off the chart?

Re: Tonga Eruption
Heard many booms in Ashburton between 7.30pm and 10pm last night. The poor dogs did not like it at all. I see Tutukaka has been smashed by the tsunami during the night. Lots of boats have sunk or been destroyed, others taken off their moorings. Lots of chat on social media about whether the warning was adequate - I’m sure the experts will debate that in the coming days and weeks.

We heard booms down in Dunedin after 8 pm. Thinking of those in Tonga this morning.

Volcanic Eruption May Be Biggest Ever Seen From Space
Volcanic Eruption May Be Biggest Ever Seen From Space
In the last 24 hours we've seen a huge explosive volcanic eruption from the Tongan island of Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai - the blast is so large it's easily visible from multiple satellites in geostationary orbit, tens of thousands of miles up. The blast sent a soundwave around the world which is still being measured and the resulting tsunami caused flooding around the pacific ocean.
