Re: General February Weather
The air is rather unpleasant in Ashburton at the moment. We had a rain shower come through which has only made it worse. Temp of 21.3, humidity 85% and if I’m using the calculator above, the dew point is 18.4.

Re: General February Weather
I grew up in Auckland hearing for years the forecast "cloudy mild and humid with xx% humidity".
Temperatures weren't predicted then but one understood from "mild" and "xx% humidity" whether it was going to be a pleasant day or not.
Will leave the dewpoint to others.
Currently 23.2°C, 60% humidity.
Overcast.
Thankfully a slight breeze.

25deg, 60% humidity and 16.7 dew point here. This weather plus digging in a fence post really makes a fella sweat.

Be great to see dewpoints used by the Metservice here in NZ like the BOM do in Australiajamie wrote:Any chance we can use dew point rather than humidity? Humidity is relative to temp but dew point gives a standard figure for how moist an air mass is.

Re: General February Weather
28.7C & 46% humidity in Lyttelton with a gentle NE. DP for the record there is 15.9C but I'm good with temp and humidity for how things will feel, I look at DP for storms.
Imagine if a strong cold southerly and upper cold pool arrived now

Re: General February Weather
Looks like Sunday/Monday for rain chances here, see how it unfolds. We get a mainly fine start to the holiday weekend here, rain arriving Sunday morning, some localised heavy showers possible Sunday afterrnoon in the steamy conditions.

Re: General February Weather
That's still something that I have never recorded on my station, records since 2016. Perhaps a chance in the next two days with highs of 31 and 32 forecast.David wrote:The 4th night in a row above 20C min here, and a few more to come as well

Re: General February Weather
Wellington (and parts of the lower north island) look to be getting a good soaking in the next 2 days. The ground is rock hard, so if the rain kicks in as heavily as some of the forecasts show, there could be some run off problems. Garden needs the rain though, we have had some native trees start to die it has been so dry!

Re: General February Weather
Yes rain chances looking a bit better now.
I see the 10 day forecast for Auckland has a minimum temperature of 20C. Rare to get such a long stretch without dropping below 20 at all. 22C this evening with dewpoint at 20C

Re: General February Weather
Yesterday the cloud sheet tipped south so was an overcast dull day with the odd skiff of drizzle but 30 minutes ago the sky opened up with a torrential shower 4.8 mm in 10 minutes falling at 30mm/hr.Seemed to be coming from the cloud sheet tail where the jet stream was tracking past

Re: General February Weather
21.8C min on my station last night. Not totally sure what my actual record warm night is due to midnight reset, but my record for highest daily minimum currently sits at 21.7 so could well be broken today.

Re: General February Weather
I use midnight reset for temperature/rain etc
as 9am is frankly dope and should be scraped...its historical use only

Re: General February Weather
A drizzly end to Friday but it still felt reasonably warm in Lyttelton early evening, a little strange. Early rain today just stopped. Wouldn't mind the sun returning, been a cloudy few days.

Re: General February Weather
Who can summarise the variance in the models for the north islands rain?
Which model performed best for the South Island event? Will that translate to performing well on the north island?

Re: General February Weather
For the coming week the modelled dew point (GFS) each day is mostly higher for Northland/Auckland than for Brisbane/Gold Coast, a little bit unusual.

Re: General February Weather
where the main convergence ends up is where the best rain chances?
already you can see how the rain band is bending into just south of Auckland, i,e Waikato
so that looks like a good area (hopefully I am just on the northern end, its very dry here, our waters tanks are low)

Re: General February Weather
Only 3.5 degrees between min and max today. DP sitting around 21. Seeing some good rain numbers for the next few days, GFS has over 100mm
