Yes I agree. Readings at the end of each month can be confusing especially when a torrential rainfall event might happen between midnight and 9am on the first and there is hardly rainfall for the rest of the month but that event is recorded in the previous months total.

Taranaki is now under a red warning for heavy rain. We're at Tongaporutu, possibly a bit far north to be in the action but either way it sure is wet here at the moment. 50 mm so far today.

Re: General February Weather
Warm out tonight sitting at 23 degrees at midnight. No Rain yet.
Models are struggling with the convective rainfall in locations and rates. EC indicating central to north Waikato wont get any rain till mid-late morning tomorrow and UK has it coming overnight tonight.
Overall situ is looking good for some good dumps of rain, but Eastern Waikato is looking better for the convection and getting better totals.
Monday is a day that holds more promise for more widespread heavy rain for Auckland and Waikato.

Re: General February Weather
Well that has smashed my "never recorded a >20C overnight low" fact about my station. Min was 21.4C. Not pleasant at all, once for the record is enough.

Re: General February Weather
Pretty uncomfortable last night here. 21.8° low, 20.4°C Dewpoint. Was looking forward to forecast cooler overnight tonight, but see that's now gone & we have more uncomfortable nights forecast. Little nervous about heavy falls in the 4-7am period tomorrow so will no doubt be putting up sandbag defenses.

Re: General February Weather
83 mm recorded at Tongaporutu, but it looks as though it's easing off now. Meanwhile the Kapoaiaia gauge at Cape Egmont has recorded over 160 mm between midnight and 9 this morning with some pretty intense hourly totals. That's on top of over 270 mm recorded yesterday. The record seems to have stopped at 9 am, maybe the gauge washed away...?

Re: General February Weather
24C with dewpoint almost 23. Imagine how tropical it would feel if the sun was out
Hoping tomorrow delivers better rainfall chances, doesn’t seem to be a lot around now

Re: General February Weather
Most of what I see currently looks to be sliding down to the west of me like this morning, but I hope I'm wrong and maybe we get some decent rain tonight. 5mm doesn't really do anything after 7 weeks of dry.

Re: General February Weather
better rain developing across the Auckland area now as the easterly/NE wind increases, generating an easterly trough and wind convergence

Re: General February Weather
The radar now looks the business, so much blue, but it's not raining much, getting a wind storm when rain is what is needed. After so long settled weather 45km/hr gusts seem like a storm. It's like the cooler Easterly is undercutting the warm air and evaporating most of the rain before it can reach the ground.

Re: General February Weather
I've noticed for a while now the intensity on the 300km radar looks too high, when you switch to the 120km radar it shows much lighter (and more in line with what's actually happening)cbm wrote: ↑Sun 06/02/2022 21:19 The radar now looks the business, so much blue, but it's not raining much, getting a wind storm when rain is what is needed.
