A wee question for the Hivemind here...
...a friend is planning to swim accross Lake Pukaki this weekend. Looking at the maps and models I'm struggling to give him a lead steer on the better conditions, seems a bit of a lottery for that area this weekend?
Sunday is looking the better.
Sounds quite a mission, question any idea how cold that lake is?

Thats what I've advised him. He'll be in a wetsuit. He does a lot of this stuff, swims lakes, rivers, etc all over the place. The length of the Buller and Clutha Rivers, Lake Colerage, Brunner for eg. Hes written a book about it too.
They seem to have deleted today map and have up only tomorrows because it say below ' Issued: 11:10am Wed, 2 Feb
Valid to 6am Fri, 4 Feb
Oh yes, sorry for the oversight.
No worries Surely someone at the MS has noticed the missing data they posted this morning, today's thunderstorm chart was a lot more interesting than tomorrows
Getting hot here now with 31c as the high cloud we've had for most of the day shifts eastwards. Feels more humid also compared to a traditional northwester.
27C with 50% humidity in Lyttelton, doesn't feel at all oppressive in the house with the windows open. Been a windy afternoon with some moderately strong gusts. Projected minimum temp for tonight is 23C. Didn't see/hear any wave lightning this arvo.
Warm, cloudy day here in Geraldine today.
Temperature maximized itself out at 32.4C this afternoon with high humidity giving the 4 Peaks range a bit of a blueish hue later this afternoon.
Rain overnight and early this morning with 2.1mm. Heard a distant boom this morning which could of been the thunder to the north that Darcyplumb heard.as the Blitz showed a couple of lightning strikes around there.
Warm evening. 25.6C at 10pm. Hot down in Dunedin this evening as well.
When I woke up at 6am Lyttelton was 23.1C with approx 60% humidity, Chch was over 26C but can't recall the humidity there. Warm night indeed, but managed to sleep through nicely. Had a cold shower this morning to freshen up!
