First ten days of March look promising for low pressure systems in the north Tasman and north of New Zealand, but a bit of a lottery to know if they will generate significant rain at your place. Last two thirds of March more high pressure dominated.

Strong cold southerly through here at 12.59pm as predicted. No rain yet. Sky quickly switched from a NW Archy looking appearance to 100% grey low stratus appearance.

Been raining here, now for a while. Just come back from Temuka where a wattle tree came down over a few cars parked in a well known fruiterer/greengrocer's place on the north side of town. No damage was reported by he did say that it was a particular very strong gust of wind from the south.

Storm params have somewhat weakened for the central and eastern north island on Sunday afternoon.

Upper temps should still be favourable for some Thundershowers and some localised heavy rain.

Hawkes Bay and BOP/Eastern Waikato seem to be the best chance, however there seems to be a more of risk that the global models arnt picking up well for the West Coast Sea Breeze convergence.

If SFC temps can budge the 27-28C mark, central to upper Waikato could be in a fairly good chance of a Thunderstorm.

Fine overnight but clouding up this morning with a strong NW Arch developing. Mild temperatures with today's maximum of 21C recorded then.
Colder southerly wind change came through around 1pm, with strong gusts and associated lower stratus cloud and a cooling of temperatures.
Coming onto rain later with some steady falls around 6pm. 18.9mm for today.

A miserable night in Wellington for the camping protesters, 38.6mm and 13C, that would be Winter weather in Auckland.
Slowly clearing in Wellington today, fine there Mon/Tuesday.
The eastern NI high country looking like the favoured place for a Tstorm today.

John - you often mention the NW Arch. What level would this cloud generally be at? Am I correct in thinking it would be medium (Ac or As) and/or high level cloud (Cir + Cs)?

I think the base is typically 15,000 to 20,000 feet, so definitely in the middle to high cross over zone. However, when a front is passing over it will lower to below the mountain tops so could be under 10,000ft for periods of time.
