That cell seems to have become quite active around you David. Rain hit here at 8pm. Lots of flashes and a few real doozies.

Decent period that. About 1.45am yesterday morning we hit around 50mm/hr. Fortunately not for long enough to flood, but you never know how long it will last at the time. Dodged the bullet again. Thunderstorms on Tuesday afternoon caused some homes near here to be without mains power overnight after a transformer was damaged & there were plenty of smaller branches broken around the place.

A clear view on the current 300km radar loop of the atmospheric river feeding in from the tropics with spillover rain making it all the way up to central Waikato and spilling over the BOP.

Yes Brian, Steven would have been particularly interested in the big rain event Monday morning. He would have probably got up early Monday morning and headed north to meet the lightning while it was still dark, he had a lot of time for his weather interest.

Cloudy Conditions

Cloudy conditions in Napier, after a night of moderate rainfall in the city. Rivers in the region are up extremely high compared to normal conditions. Rain has mostly cleared, however low cloud and light drizzle persist, with variable breezes.
More rain expected tonight and tommorow, but hoping for some clean surf conditions as the low moves further offshore. 🙏 😄 🏄‍♂️
