Re: General April Weather
Could be on track for the driest April in my records, would need 20mm to not be (and it’s looking mostly dry in the modelling)

"and it’s looking mostly dry in the modelling"
there will be a good period of heavy rain later on thursday / early Friday
with the colder air mass with the SW wind change meeting this warm tropical air mass
but yeah after that , another big high and dry SE winds moves in

Re: General April Weather
Back from the Easter break in Central Otago. Lovely mild autumnal weather.
Back home here, a lovely fine day with a maximum of 20.1C for today.

Re: General April Weather
I see Auckland Aero recorded its highest April temp of 26.5C today since records began there in 1962.
It also equalled its now third highest April temp of 25.9C with 2012 earlier this month.

Re: General April Weather
That seems really high! Was nowhere near a record here today or on other PWS in the region… most of them showing less than 24 in fact

Re: General April Weather
NE flow and variable cloud cover today, southwestern suburbs of Auckland did better for weather than northeast parts of the city. The dew point today got up to about 19C . Also Yesterday the North Shore picked up 16.6mm while the airport got only 0.2mm.

Anyone want to hazard a guess as to what tropical island beach I was on today?

No real clues in the photo. Vegetation looks like hardy/wind tolerant type. Could be anywhere.Razor wrote:Anyone want to hazard a guess as to what tropical island beach I was on today?

Re: General April Weather
Fine overnight and this morning but NW cloud thickening this afternoon with a NW Arch forming.
Not much wind. Today's maximum was 17.3C before the high cloud moved over.
Got no clue on your photo, Razor. Could it be on the West Coast prior to the front moving onto the region today???

Re: General April Weather
Hello Razor. Is it Stewart Island?
With regard to the reported April maximum temperature for Auckland Airport, does anyone know if a higher figure has been achieved at a station with an older or longer record period?

However, NIWA's Mangere site, just 5 km further north, only recorded 23.7C yesterday, similar to most other nearby PWS's as David pointed out. So Auckland Aero's 26.5C yesterday does look a little suspect...

Re: General April Weather
yeah, it does seem odd that reading
but maybe they had a patch of good sunshine for long enough, and it is well down wind with good land heating

Maximum temperature records at international airports should always be treated as suspect and need to be corroborated by surrounding sites.Nev wrote: ↑Thu 21/04/2022 13:03Yes, too many to mention though.Simon Culling wrote: ↑Thu 21/04/2022 00:04

Re: General April Weather
Warm down here too, 25C. I thought today would be overcast and a day of overthrow showers from the thunderstorm activity along the Southern Alps but no so. Rain seems to moving all around us. Basically a blue dome day here.

Re: General April Weather
Very unusual being so late in the month but not a Record for April as both and Ashburton and Timaru Airport topped 30c on the 4th of April last year.
